Our service and these terms
PDXinspections LLC ("PDXinspections," "we," "us") performs used vehicle pre-purchase inspections. We use only automotive professionals who are, or have previously been, ASE Certified technicians trained and experienced in evaluating and reporting the overall condition of used vehicles.
Our inspection report is our professional opinion, based on our experience inspecting thousands of used vehicles using the same process. It reports only what we observe and find.
By ordering an inspection, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
Booking and seller consent
You must tell the seller or owner in advance that you want PDXinspections to inspect the vehicle, and the seller must agree. We will arrange the inspection and confirm the vehicle's availability before we try to access it.
If our inspector arrives and is not permitted to perform part or all of the inspection, you are responsible for 50% of the inspection fee. If you want us to return to the vehicle later, the full inspection fee applies again.
What the inspection covers
Your report includes the tests and procedures described on our website unless we state otherwise. To the best of our ability, we inspect and report on:
- Vehicle wear and tear
- Evidence of previous body work or accident repairs
- Factory accessories and electronics
- Safety systems and seat belts, unless a child seat or similar item occupies them
- ECM, PCM, module, and computer scans
- A mechanical evaluation of everything we can reach within reason without disassembly
We do not disassemble vehicle components that are not easily accessed as part of our procedure.
Some functions are checked only for the ability to power on, such as CD, tape, and DVD players, rear seat entertainment, and navigation. We test these with media only if the seller provides it. Otherwise, you are responsible for verifying that they work.
We make a reasonable effort to complete a test drive. Seller refusal, weather, mechanical issues, or unsafe or poor roads may prevent it. In that case, we complete the rest of the report in full without the test drive.
What an inspection cannot find
The report reflects the vehicle's overall condition at the time of inspection. We are not responsible for changes that occur afterward.
No inspection can see potential failures inside the engine, transmission, driveline, electrical system, or other components. Intermittent conditions may not appear during our limited time with the vehicle. The vehicle is fully assembled, so if it had previous repairs, our opinion covers only the visible parts of those repairs, and you should assume underlying damage may be present but unseen.
If a vehicle has been in an accident, before or after our inspection, including a salvage or reconstructed title, consider it structurally weakened. No repair restores a vehicle to its original strength, and we do not recommend purchasing such vehicles. Airbag modules are scanned when possible, and safety and restraint systems are inspected visually only. We cannot guarantee that these components were unaffected, properly repaired, or will work in a future accident.
Conditions that affect accuracy. Weather, lighting, and the cleanliness of the vehicle can keep us from detecting interior defects, damage, wear, or previous body and paint work. The cleaner and better lit the vehicle, the more accurate the inspection. Ideally the seller will clear dirt, mud, debris, snow, and ice before we arrive.
Cold starts are preferred but not always possible. Please ask the seller to leave the vehicle parked and unstarted before we arrive. We inspect the vehicle regardless of startup temperature. Cold weather, high heat, or humidity may also prevent us from evaluating the HVAC and air conditioning systems.
No warranty and no purchase advice
PDXinspections does not provide written or implied warranties for its service.
We do not advise whether you should buy or decline to buy any vehicle, unless we believe it is unsafe or has a major imminent problem. We do report how the vehicle rates compared with similar past inspections of like models and mileages. Our professional opinion may differ from yours, the seller's, or anyone else's who inspects the same vehicle.
We believe our process is among the most extensive in the business, running overlapping tests to reduce errors and omissions. You are always encouraged to get a second or third inspection. Any guarantee of the vehicle's condition remains between you and the seller.
Release and limitation of liability
You agree that PDXinspections and our inspectors are not liable for any missed damage, failure, or omission in the report. This includes mechanical or electrical problems, damage hidden or concealed by the seller, and any failure that occurs after you buy the vehicle.
You release PDXinspections and our inspectors from liability for personal injury or property damage sustained during an inspection we perform on your behalf, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
The inspection is an informational tool to help you make an informed purchase decision. It does not guarantee that the vehicle will not break down or that it has no hidden damage, past or present, that went undetected or was left out of the report. We provide only a written second professional opinion on the day of the inspection.
In no event will the liability of PDXinspections, its employees, and its inspectors exceed the fees you paid us for the inspection.
Payment, cancellation, and your report
Payment and refunds. Payments are processed by third-party payment processors. Our payment processing fees are non-refundable to us, so any refund is issued for the original payment amount minus the actual processing fees (approximately 3%).
Cancellations after our confirmation email. Once you have received our confirmation email with research, the following apply. In each case, your refund is processed minus a $50 fee that compensates us for our time, payment processing fees, research, and any reports or information already provided:
- We discover information during our research that makes an inspection unnecessary.
- You cancel your inspection with sufficient notice before we attempt to schedule it.
- The vehicle is sold before we schedule the inspection.
Seller no-show or vehicle sold on inspection day. If we contact the seller to schedule on the day of the inspection and cannot complete it because of the seller (for example, a no-show or the vehicle sells before we arrive), there is an $80 minimum charge. It covers merchant fees, research provided, and our travel expenses.
Your report. We deliver the inspection report electronically to the person who ordered it. It is prepared for that person's use in deciding whether to buy the vehicle. Please do not resell, republish, or present it as a certification or warranty.
