Competitors Independent Mobile Inspections or Mobile Mechanics
- Are they honest, unbiased, are they looking to upsell products or services?
Someone who also repairs vehicles may have a conflict of interest. - Are they ASE Master or even ASE Certified Technicians?
If they don’t have ASE certifications they have no business inspecting automobiles! Ask for the inspector’s credentials. There is no “Car inspection training or school”. An appraiser isn’t an inspector. Only Master Certified Technicians with experience should be inspecting vehicles PERIOD! - Is anything additional on top of the inspection provided?
History report(s), service history, used car advice prior/after to the inspection? - Do they have the ability to measure paint or is it just their opinion if they think something has been repainted it’s automatically “been crashed”
- Do they use anything more than a flashlight, clipboard and simple code reader?
- Customer service skills?
- 30 minute arrival windows provided?
- Jack of all trades, do they claim to inspect everything from motorcycles to RV’s?
- Whats their turnaround time from when you contact them to when you have a report?
- Do you get a report?
Dealership or Independent Repair Shop
- Is this convenient, quick or cost effective?
No, sometimes you must schedule a week out, the seller must drop off the vehicle for the day, the inspection could take as long as 3-5 hours (not convenient for the seller), you are usually not aware of the communications between the seller and the service writer (extra person in the loop/no communication with whoever performs the inspection), and often more expensive then our inspection. - Used car inspections are what, maybe 5% of their business?
These companies make money on repairs, dealers make money by up-selling products and services. Confusion between what is actually required vs. recommended can be very common. - Is the person who inspects your car an ASE certified technician or is it the lube and oil guy?
Just because the dealership advertises ASE certified technicians, it doesn’t mean a Certified or Master Certified Technician will be actually inspecting the vehicle. You will not know who’s performing the inspection. - Is anything additional on top of the inspection provided?
History report(s), service history, used car advice prior/after to the inspection? Keep in mind the seller is likely going to take it in and you will not be working with the inspector and you may not be able to get any information from the service writer as its not your vehicle. - Do they have the ability to measure paint or is it just their opinion if they think something has been repainted it’s automatically “been crashed”
A dealership or service shop has no use for a paint meter and they are not in the business of auto body work. - Do they do anything more than put the vehicle on a lift? Do they plug into the car, run enhanced diagnostics, provide measurements, test everything?
This is going to surprise a lot of people but as someone who did this in a dealership setting for several years, there are virtually no tools used other than lifting the cars and a flashlight for “inspection” technicians with no fault of their own are in the mindset of looking for work (this is how you make money in a dealership setting). - Takes up to a week to get it in to have it inspected?
Our turnaround time is measured in hours from your online booking to the time you have our 5-6 page report arrive in your inbox - Do you get an in depth report or is it the same general inspection report designed for cars of the 70’s? Do you get it instantly or does it go to the seller?
We don’t check carburetors and chokes therefore you’re never going to see those kinds of things on our reports. We don’t have a checkbox 1 page report to give you, we don’t fool you with a 150 point inspection. We check and test everything, provide real values, measurements and real easy to read and understand terminology. Best of all this 5-6 page report is instantly emailed to you from the inspection site itself.
National Chain Inspection
- Is this for real?
There are a lot of these company’s claiming to have inspectors throughout the US. - Is there a standard?
No. - Who is the person who inspects the vehicle?
You won’t know or likely get to talk to them directly - Do they have the ability to measure paint?
Haven’t seen one yet claiming to use real inspection tools. - Do they use any inspection equipment or a camera, flashlight, checkbox paper and clipboard?
Check out there small print, many state this is not a mechanical inspection. These are almost always basic condition reports. - Takes up to 48 hours for them to schedule the inspection or more than likely find someone with a camera, flashlight and pen to travel to the car?
Our turnaround time is measured in hours from your online booking to the time you have our 5-6 page report arrive in your inbox. - Do you get an in depth report or is it the same general checkbox report commonly seen throughout the internet.
